Chiropractic Care in Pregnancy
At the Tunbridge Wells Chiropractic Clinic we often see pregnant women. During pregnancy most women experience a number of neuromuscular and biomechanical problems causing pregnacy back pain. These changes often respond favourably to gentle, safe, non-invasive chiropractic care.
Changes in pregnancy affect the pelvic and spinal muscles, ligaments, joints and other supportive soft tissues. These changes cause pelvic sprains and strains resulting in pain and discomfort.
These can include:
- Release of the hormone relaxin causing muscle and joint relaxation which allows the joints to more easily misalign.
- Increased weight gain, which can cause fatigue in the spinal and pelvic muscles and ligaments as well as an increase in the lumbar and thoracic curves. This can lead to vertebral and sacroiliac joint misalignments.
- Change in weight distribution, which increases demand on spinal and pelvic muscles and ligaments
Therapeutic Exercise and Stretch:
- Advice will be given about stretching and exercise in pregnancy. This will help to keep the spine and pelvis strong, active and pain free.
There are gentle spinal and pelvic adjustment procedures, which can:
- Prevent pain
- Maintain correct posture in the spine and pelvis
- Minimise soft tissue discomfort
- Minimse complications in birth by optimising spinal and pelvic mechanics
- Soft tissue work
- Massage and trigger point therapy
Treatment fees:
- First treatment - £40.00
- Subsequent treatment - £33.00
